To work together for the establishment of a secondary school facility for deaf and hearing impaired students in the Outer Eastern Suburbs of Melbourne.

At the current time, there is only one secondary school deaf facility in the Eastern Suburbs of Melbourne. There are two primary school deaf facilities. Many of the students leaving these facilities must then enrol in the private school system. If they enrol in government schools support is not available to them that would be available in a deaf facility. This is of grave concern to many families.However, barriers to the successful establishment of a secondary school deaf facility are the lack of policies from the Department of Education and Training for the planning of the establishment of deaf facilities, communication methods to be used, funding needed and some families opposition to the use of signing with their children which will limit the number of students seeking enrolment.

That a secondary school facility be established for the 2005 academic school year in the outer eastern suburbs of Melbourne, Victoria.
