Paper synopsis

This paper was presented at the International Congress on the Education of the Deaf in Maastricht, 2005.
The paper presents an overview of deaf education in Cameroon. It introduces the vision and mission of Cameroon Deaf Empowerment Organisation (CDEO.) It further outlines CDEO’s educational programmes in the Ephphatha Institute for the Deaf, its staff training and sources of funding. It relates CDEO’s experiences of working with other partners to realise it goals. The paper shares lessons learnt from CDEO experience and makes proposals on how deaf education can be improved in Cameroon. The paper concludes by reiterating the importance of partnership and networking among all the stakeholders.
