A former teacher at Hamilton Lodge School, Miss Jenny Merritt, runs the school and operates a pupil sponsor scheme. The pupils at Hamilton Lodge organise various fundraising activities to help the school and in particular follow the progress of one eight year old pupil at the school in Ethiopia.

Two teachers from Hamilton Lodge have also been to the school to assist and to take educational and play equipment for the school. Pupils at Hamilton Lodge also send drawings, letters and photographs to Ethiopia.

Additionally the school's Geography Department look at Ethiopia as part of their studies when looking at the developing world.
