How to apply

This page contains all the information required to apply for a small grant. This information is also on our SGP Background information leaflet which you can download at the bottom of this page or contact Kirsty Wilson if you would like to receive a copy of this by email. SGP has a very flexible structure, we want to make sure that we respond to organisations’ needs and fund the best work. Please do not hesitate to contact us, if you would like to discuss your project in relation to any of the SGP criteria.

The grants from SGP will be for registered organisations only. SGP will also only fund organisations based in certain countries. You can download IDCS's List of SGP eligible countries for 2004 (63 kb) [pdf]

All projects must be able to demonstrate strategic fit and a need for the activities, which must continue after the programme funds are finished. We are only interested in funding activities with certain characteristics so please read the FAQ What types of activity are eligible for SGP funds? in the Before you apply category.

In order to see how well your project idea fits our objectives and strategy, you should read the following FAQs, What is the SGP objective? and What are IDCS's strategic aims?, which are also in the category Before you apply.

The grants will be for amounts of money that do not exceed £10,000, of which less than 10% must be spent on managing the project. We want as much of SGP money as possible to go into activities that directly benefit deaf children. It is vital to think carefully about the costs involved in any project before making an application. To find out more read the FAQ What costs are eligible for SGP funds? in the Before you apply category.

There are certain types of projects that SGP will not fund, this is usually because the project seeks continuation funding and does not show innovation or focuses too heavily on technology which is difficult to maintain. Read the FAQ What SGP will NOT fund? in the Before you apply category, for more details.

SGP needs to be transparent in selecting projects for funding and the first stage of this occurs through a screening process. We will screen projects on the basis of concept notes.

All projects need to fulfil SGP's eligibility criteria. We highly recommend that you visit the FAQ section where information is broken down into the following categories:

If concept notes are approved, IDCS will assist successful organisations to develop their projects, monitor progress and disseminate results. One of the key aims of IDCS is to encourage the exchange of information and best practice.

Next Steps…
If you think that your organisation might have an idea for a project that could make a measurable difference to the lives of deaf children and their families in a developing or transitional country, then you might want to apply to Round 4 of SGP. Round 4 willon 1 May 2005 and we will accept concept notes until 30 June 2005. Applications are only accepted if they are in the SGP concept note format. The concept note format will be available to download from this website once the round is
